Accidental Poisoning

Thursday, December 01, 2011

Accidental poisoning can happen in only a few seconds; keeping your home free of common household hazards and taking some preventative measures will make sure your pet has fewer risks of poisoning. Be sure to keep all medication, household cleaners, pesticides and chemicals such as antifreeze stored where pets cannot get access to them. Read all the labels and instructions before using any new household or yard products. Never give any human medications or supplements without consulting your veterinarian. Check the label before using flea and tick products on or around your pet. Products labeled for “dogs only” can be life threatening to a cat. If you think that your pet may have ingested a potentially poisonous substance, call (800) 213-6680. A $35 consultation fee will be applied to your credit card.
